POSITION OVERVIEW

The bilingual Medical-Legal Assistant (MLA) offers excessive quality administrative help to Physician Advisors in the Medico-legal Services (MLS) department. Specifically, the MLA assists the Physician Advisors in the useful and effective management/monitoring, evaluate and maintenance of medical authorized case files and ultimately, in the supply of core providers to CMPA members. POSITION. ACTIVITIES

Provide high-quality administrative help to the Physician Advisors and Senior Physician Advisors
Prioritize case management workload (ie. transcription, editing, authorized correspondence, case file maintenance).

Transcribe and/or edit dictations with medical terminology. Collaborate with Legal Case Administrators (LCA) on administrative maintenance for all civil authorized cases. Cross-departmental collaboration on the management of all files. Manage most correspondence obtained from members and law corporations. Initiate appropriate letters to provincial counsel relating to changes to key file information. Contact members, via phone or email, as required or requested by Physician Advisors
Contribute. to special initiatives and different duties as required (eg. updating procedures, testing, working groups, etc)

EDUCATION. AND EXPERIENCE

Diploma or certificate program (2-3 years) in a related field such as Office Administration
4 to 6 years’ expertise working in a medical workplace or related setting
Advanced know-how of medical terminology
Basic know-how of authorized terminology is an asset
Training and/or work related expertise in editing/proof reading
Experience transcribing medical texts via dictaphone or dictation software

Experience working in reception and/or a name centre is an asset

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Verbal and written proficiency in both official languages (English and French) is required
Advanced editing/proof reading skills
Ability to rapidly and precisely transcribe and edit medical authorized dictations and enter information into a database
Ability to workout judgement and deal with highly confidential information with discretion
Advanced computer skills; know-how of phrase processing software, electronic scheduling system, electronic file management software program and databases required; know-how of dictation software program an asset
Advanced organizational skills with capability to multi-task essential
Well-developed interpersonal skills with capability to work in a staff environment essential. Good phone method. Diplomacy, professionalism, discretion
Data entry expertise. Typing 50 phrases per minute
